Urgent Wildfire Update: 128 Active Fires, 15 Out of Control - Northern Squamish Urged to Heighten Preparedness
Recent updates from provincial authorities have highlighted a sobering reality: there are currently 128 active wildfires listed in the province of British Columbia, with 15 of them burning out of control. While we may not have any immediate threat of wildfires in our region, this should serve as a wake-up call for us all to take proactive measures to ensure our community's safety and resilience.
While North Squamish may not currently be facing an active wildfire threat, we must not become complacent. The unpredictability of wildfires means that we must be prepared for any eventuality. This includes supporting our local emergency responders, such as the Northern Squamish Volunteer Fire Brigade Society.
The Northern Squamish Volunteer Fire Brigade Society plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our community. As the primary sponsor of the Brigade, Paradise Trails has been instrumental in providing the resources and support necessary for the Brigade to fulfil its mission effectively.
Now, more than ever, we need the support of every member of our community to bolster the capabilities of our fire brigade. There are several ways you can contribute:
1. Donate: Consider making a monetary donation to the Northern Squamish Volunteer Fire Brigade Society. Your contributions will directly support training, equipment upgrades, and other essential initiatives to enhance our community's wildfire preparedness.
2. Sign the Petition: Show your support for Paradise Trails and the Northern Squamish Volunteer Fire Brigade Society by signing the petition advocating for the approval of the Eco-village project to ensure continued funding and resources. Every signature counts in demonstrating the importance of wildfire mitigation and emergency response efforts in our community.
3. Spread Awareness: Share this message with your friends, family, and neighbours. Encourage them to join you in supporting our fire brigade and preparing for the wildfire season ahead.
As residents of North Squamish, we have a shared responsibility to protect our community and ensure its resilience in the face of natural disasters. By rallying together and supporting our local fire brigade, we can strengthen our defences and safeguard what matters most to us – our homes, families, communities, and our way of life.
The threat of wildfires is real, but so too is our capacity to mitigate it through collective action and community support. Let us seize this opportunity to come together and build a safer, more resilient North Squamish for generations to come.
